El Día de Paz

Before I headed to Switzerland for a weekend full of chocolate and cheese, I got to celebrate Peace Day (el día de paz) with my school on January 30th.  Peace day is an international day that was created in 1981 by a resolution 36/67 of the United Nations General Assembly to coincide with its opening session every September.  Yes, I know it’s February…you all should know now that Spain choses to celebrate later (the rest of the world celebrates it in September).  We are a bit behind here in Spain.

Our school set up different classrooms with activities surrounding the themes of respect, peace, responsibility, etc.  The students went to these rooms in teams, and completed activities together.  I was in the English room with the English teachers.  The 5th and 6th level students worked on computer programs with various peace day vocabulary, 3rd and 4th level students played an awesome conversation board game, and 1st and 2nd level students did puzzles.

Here are some pictures of what they did in other classrooms:

  1. That slide seems like a blatant disregard for safety violations :P. Oh well, at our school we had a rock concert for Día de la Paz that turned into an eight year old mosh pit, so not much safer!
